Adjusting the brake

Your Pukka comes equipped with a 90mm rear band brake. When adjusted properly, the brake will allow you to stop your Pukka safely. Your Pukka's brake can be adjusted by turning the barrel screws at each end of the brake cable, by adjusting the brake cable, and by adjusting the position of the band within the brake housing.

The most common adjustment to the brake is to make the brake tighter or looser. This can be easily done by adjusting a barrel screws at either end of the brake cable. You may need to adjust both end to get the desired adjustment.

At the brake end of the cable, the barrel screw is threaded into the brake. Turning the screw counter-clockwise will tighten the brake and clockwise will loosen it. Lock the screw into place with the lock nut.

At the brake lever end of the cable, the barrel screw is threaded into the brake lever assembly. Turning the screw counter-clockwise will tighten the brake and clockwise will loosen it. Lock the screw into place with the lock nut.

If the band is tightening unevenly around the brake drum, you can change the position of the band by adjusting the positioning bolts located on the the metal brake housing. Each positioning bolt has a lock nut to secure it in place.
